Introduction to Yogic Meditation
With Michael Lloyd-Billington
Most of us know that meditation is considered a fundamental part of yoga, yet we tend to be unclear what it has to do with headstands or backbends, let alone whether it’s something we really need. In this introductory mini-workshop, we’ll explore the yogic understanding of meditation, including why it is considered indispensable for our personal growth. You’ll learn the basic principles, as well as common challenges for those new to meditation, with an emphasis on how this simple practice can dramatically improve all aspects of your life – from greater mindfulness to healthier relationships at work and at home.
Topics will include:
- From Pose to Peace: How the physical practices of yoga relate to meditation and what meditation can give you that asana alone can’t provide.
- Do You Control Your Mind, or Does Your Mind Control You?: Learn the difference between a strong mind and a controlled mind, and how meditation can help you live more mindfully, productively, and happily.
- How Meditation & Relaxation Differ: Common misconceptions about meditation, why it can seem so hard, and how it can be easier than you think.
- Simple Steps to Building a Personal Practice: Basic, practical guidance on how to make meditation a regular part of your daily routine….
